A single document can contain both footnotes and endnotes. ![]() We will use the term “notes” in this column to refer to both footnotes and endnotes except when there is a distinction between the two. The main distinction between footnotes and endnotes is implied in their names: Footnotes appear at the bottom (or foot) of each page, whereas endnotes appear at the end of a section or of a document.
